“I Was Just Like Peter!”
In August of last year we shared a story of a young man’s personal encounter when, in desperation he called out to God and God answered him immediately.
Since then I, Matt, have been meeting weekly to study the Bible with him. A few days ago, he sent me the following text:
“I was reading John 18 and reflecting on the story of Peter denying Jesus when my friend, who isn’t a believer, walked by and we started talking. I became self-conscious about having my Bible out. I worried that she might feel uncomfortable or think I’m some kind of Christian fanatic—a topic that comes up often around here. Then, I realized I was just like Peter, hiding my faith instead of standing firm in it.”
We are so honored to meet with new believers. The things the Holy Spirit makes them say and the experiences He gives them has a two-fold effect: a continued confirmation of our own faith as we see God moving in their lives and a continuing strengthening of theirs when they realize it.
One of the clearest statements of the believer’s “job descriptions” in the scripture is found in Matthew 29:19 where Jesus says to His disciples, “…go and make disciples of all nations... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Ask the Lord to lead you to others who need to learn how to walk more closely with Jesus. You’ll never regret it... and you’ll grow closer to Him at the same time.
Serving with you,
Matt & Betsy Guilford
